I.Essence personal training, run by Charlene Wickham, aims to facilitate individuals in achieving the best that they can be through health and fitness. I.Essence personal training understand the benefits that can be received, from healthy eating and a good exercise regime. Through Charlene's own journey with weight management she represents many woman and mothers out there and therefore can show that it can be done through focus and determination.

I.Essence personal training services

I.Essence currently offer personal training to pre/postnatal clients, as well as the general public. I.Essence personal training can come to your home, or you can come to them, or a pre-arranged facility for one-to-one personal training.  A personal training session will aim to work on core strength and posture, and also stress an importance on flexibility.

Charlene has a number of fitness and personal training qualifications to her name, making her an experienced and well qualified personal trainer. Her qualifications include:

  • Award in indoor cycling
  • YMCA Level 3 Instructing Physical Activity for Ante/Post Natal Exercise
  • Zumba, Zumba Toning
  • Diploma in Personal Training with Future Fit Training - including:

     - Personal Trainer and Advanced Instructor
     - Nutrition and Weight Management & Nutrition for Sport & Exercise

     - Torso training and core stability

  • OCR Level 2 Certificate in Teaching Group Exercise and Fitness to music

I used to go Zumba classes where Charlene was the instructor and I very much enjoyed them. I reached my targets of losing weight and gaining physical strength. When I become pregnant, Charlene advised me to stop and I did although I missed the classes a lot. I wanted to continue exercising and I knew Charlene run personal fitness classes so I started a 10 week course with her . From the very start Charlene made me feel comfortable and I knew I could trust her to keep the exercises safe for me. She tailored the sessions for me so they were achievable but also challenging. She encouraged me to continue exercising between sessions and set exercise programmes for me to follow. I am very pleased and satisfied with Charlene's instruction and would have no hesitation in recommending her to others.

I celebrated my birthday in December 2010 wearing a lovely dress and thought I looked nice until I saw the photos. I was mortified at how overweight I was and decided that 2011 was the year to do something about it. On 23rd June 2011 I attended my first zumba class with Charlene. After a few sessions thought I        could do something a bit more changeling. Charlene is a qualified personal trainer so I decided to give this a try.

At the first session in  we had a chat about my diet, health issues and what my goals were.  Measurements and weight were taken. This was to be the start of the rest of my life.

Charlene devised a tailor made exercise plan and every two weeks there was the measuring and weighing.  She is always encouraging me to do better and reminds me of my goals.

Regular sessions always starts with a warm up and then the  exercises which included the use of light hand weights, squats, jumping jacks, medicine ball, stepper.  As I became fitter- using my own body weight, jogging, running, heavier hand weights, kettlebells.  Weather permitting jogging in the park with a backpack going up and down hills and using the benches as step machine. All the sessions end with a cool down and wonderful stretches.

Every session Charlene would ask how the week had been in regards to diet and the 'homework' given.  Homework was to practice the techniques for some of the exercises. Charlene always ensures that the exercises are performed properly (to prevent injury) and shows alternatives.  She gaged how hard I was working so that I was working to my full potential, always asking how I was feeling.

Controlled diets have not worked for me in the past so Charlene gave me hints and tips on various foods and portion control. So I now eat more fruit and veg with lots more variety and cut out foods which I discovered did not agree with me.

Having a personal trainer ensured that I achieved my full potential under controlled and safe environment.  I have become stronger, healthier; have more stamina, become disciplined and confident. What's more I enjoy exercise and love the way I look. Thank you Charlene x
