About Enfield
The London Borough of Enfield is a small market town located in North London, specifically Middlesex which borders, Barnet and Waltham Forest, as well as Bedfordshire and Epping in Essex. The town has a history of making small arms for the British Military, with the Lee-Enfield .303 rifle used by the British Army until 1957. Enfield has also other claims to fame, including being the birthplace for the manufacturing of the world's first solid state circuitry colour television sets, made by Ferguson. The first mass produced dishwashers were as made in Enfield and amazingly the world's first ATM was installed in a branch of Barclays Bank in Enfield in 1967. Sadly, all these world firsts have been closed, with the ATM being replaced by a English Heritage Blue Plaque. Today Enfield includes newly developed shopping centres and residential housing. Sport is a major pastime in Enfield, with the area housing an athletics track, football pitches, baseball diamonds, rugby pitches, cricket greens and swimming pools.
