About Nottingham

Nottingham is situated on the banks of the River Trent in the East Midlands and has a population of just over 305,000, making it the second largest city in the East Midlands. Nottingham is, perhaps, most famous for the stories of Robin Hood and his band of merry men who, as folklore would have it, lived in Sherwood Forest and robbed from the rich and give to the poor. During the industrial revolution of the 19th century Nottingham became well-known for a number of manufacturing items, including lace, bicycle and tobacco. Today Nottingham is the headquarters of a number of national companies, including Boots, Experian, E.On UK, Gala Bingo, Vision Express and Speedo, the swimwear manufacturer, to name but a few. Nottingham is also famous of spawning the two-time European Cup winning side, Nottingham Forest, under the management team of Brian Clough and coach Peter Taylor, in 1979 and 1980, as well as the Test cricket ground Trent Bridge, home ground of the Nottinghamshire county cricket club. Nottingham is also home to two universities, Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham, who have a combined yearly intake of 60,000 students.
