About Coventry

Coventry is located in the West Midlands area and is the UK's 12th largest and the Midlands 3rd largest city with over 316,000 residents. Coventry is a vibrant city with two universities, Coventry University and the University of Warwick. Coventry has a wealth of tourist attractions, from the cathedral to the world-famous Lady Godiva parade. Landmarks in the area include the ruins of the old cathedral, destroyed beyond repair by the German air force during blitz bombings in World War II. Coventry, alongside with Hull and Portsmouth, aside from London were the cities mostly affected by blitz attacks. After the war the city was rebuilt, with a new pedestrian shopping centre, a new cathedral and major manufacturing businesses, including automotive factories for the likes of Jaguar. Coventry has a long tradition of sport and is home to Coventry City Football Club, the shock 1987 FA Cup winners, beating Spurs 3-2. Other popular sports in the city include Speedway, rugby league, stock car racing and ice hockey.
