About Cambridge

Cambridge is the famous university town that lies on the River Cam, in East Anglia. Set 50 miles away from London, Cambridge has a population of approximately 130,000 residents, 22,000 or so thousand whom are students attending the University of Cambridge or the Anglia Ruskin University. History shows that Cambridge, with its road connections to London became an important area of trade in the late 18th century. Today, much of Cambridge's business comes from tech firms, pharmaceuticals, engineering, software development and R & D. In a nod to Silicon Valley in California, home to Facebook, Google and the like, Cambridge is often referred to as Silicon Fen, due to the number of technology and software companies who have made their home here. Cambridge also has a long history of sport, especially with football due because the first rules of association football were drawn up at the University of Cambridge in 1848. The main football team in the city is Cambridge United. Other sports played include rugby, cricket and of course Cambridge Boat Club competes each year with Oxford Boat Club in the world famous University Boat Race.
