About Brighton

Brighton is a coastal town in the East Sussex County, located in the South of England, which has a population of approximately 155,000 residents. Brighton developed into a popular day trip and holiday destination with the development London and Brighton railway in 1841, with many of Brighton's major landmarks and tourist attractions built within the reign of Queen Victoria, including the Grand Hotel, the West Pier and the Palace Pier. Other major attractions in Brighton included the Royal Pavilion, the Brighton Marina and the stony beach front. Brighton has a large gay and lesbian community, which is often said to be the gay capital of England. The community is served by bars, nightlife and shops. Brighton also has a sporting history that includes football, with Brighton and Hove Albion Football Club, who were narrowly defeated in the 1983 FA Cup final replay by Manchester United, and cricket, with the Sussex Cricket team based on Easton Road.
